Beating the stresses of casting the same set of veteran comedians – Bhalla, Ghuggi and Anmol, Chaudhary has leveraged the script to infuse freshness into each of them. While creating comic sequences, director Ksshitij Chaudhary has trumped the challenge of directing the beloved genre of Punjabi films- comedy. Rather than allowing Radha to turn into a mockery, as is usually the case when most male actors get into women’s clothes, Jassie has assumed mannerisms befitting a truly coy banjaran. Jassie displays ample strength of character and maturity while playing her. The ‘man’ who steals the show, however, is Jassie Gill, soon as he (Balli) turns into a gypsy girl, Radha. Though Payal’s role, as is the case with most Punjabi films, is short, she has done justice to an upright doctor in a village riddled with drug abuse. In the bargain, he also offends the lady doctor of the rehab center, played Payal Rajput, who is trying to reform Ladi. Ranjit Bawa, who plays the wasteful, village drug addict, brings in all elements of a true addict when he continuously flees rehab and turns a petty thief to buy his daily fix. In keeping with the season of sequels which have retained their original storylines, Mr & Mrs 420 Returns continues the tenor of its first film in its comic theme.
